In every country, city, and neighborhood, there’s a story to be told on Regeneration. After a period of stillness, we are asking ourselves how we’re going to emerge from this experience, and whether we have evolved, or even better, transformed into something greater than we were before.

Kai Avent deLeon, founder of concept store Sincerely, Tommy, and co-founder of Building Black Bedstuy, joins the Voices of Regeneration campaign to give us a peek into her world, sharing what she has to say on growth and self-reflection through video/interview.

What have you learned about yourself during this time of self-reflection?
Kai: I think coming to terms with creating more discipline in my life. I was able to see the that discipline is key on the road to mindfulness.

Looking ahead, how would you like to evolve or grow?
Kai: I would like to develop more patience. I am very much a doer, which has simultaneously created a sense of getting things done more rapidly. I am working on having a better appreciation for the process of things.

Where do you go to feel closest to yourself?
Kai: Alone - mostly at home, but could also be traveling. I love the desert, if I am not alone at home I can be alone in that setting and feel extremely connected to self.
